I blame others! Never me! Mar. 20th, 2009 @ 07:33 pm
So... I have a Twitter now. Blame my sisters.

Does this mean that I'm riding cusp of the wave of the technological singularity that is modern life?

If Things Made Sense, it Wouldn't Be Nearly as Much Fun Mar. 4th, 2009 @ 02:04 am
So apparently there's a fighting game based on Les Miserables. No, I'm not shitting you. Between this, John McCain admitting that he doesn't know how to manage a beaver, and Louis Pasteur shooting down a helicopter (around 2:20), I really don't know what to make of the world anymore.

Next, on Am I Creepy or Not Mar. 2nd, 2009 @ 03:50 pm
So scientists are trying to make robots more responsive to human emotion, hopefully picking up a decrease to overall creepiness somewhere along the way. They've made a replica of Albert Einstein to test the principles out, and... Well, here, take a look.

On the one hand, the head is fairly realistic. It certainly beats the hell out of a lot of humanish robots out there in the uncanny valley. But on the other hand... Well, it's a fairly realistic head on an obviously robotic body. It's like they resurrected Albert Einstein and gave him a tiny little mecha body. And I can't decide if that's awesome or not. I mean, on the one hand, he can't give you a handshake without a nine-week course on how to operate his own wrist. But on the other hand, he finally has the power to crush Neils Bohr.

Unless someone gave Neils Bohr a mech.

Five Movies Watched Backwards
1. Pirates of the Carribean; Dead Man's Chest: A pirate is thrown up by a giant Kraken, and goes on to join a group of bloodthirsty cannibals by driving his ship up their beach and leading them in a backwards marathon.
2. Jaws: A shark continually throws up swimmers until they have to open a beach.
3. Monty Python's The Meaning of Life: Actually, this doesn't make any sense backwards or forwards.
4. Akira: A huge mutated psionic giant shrinks down into the body of a teenager, loses his psychic power, and goes to high school. Also included; A motorcycle gang engages in a spirited game of "I'm not touching you."
5. Star Trek; the Motion Picture: Boldly backing away from where men have never gone before.

The World of Bacon may be awesome or disgusting, I haven't made up my mind yet.
» Chocolate + Chocolate x Chocolate^3
Mom made me what is possibly the mother of all birthday cakes. I will attempt to describe its contents to you;

Take two freshly baked chocolate cake rounds, and melt two full Hershey's bars over one. After the cakes cool, frost as normal with a thick layer of chocolate buttercream frosting. Top liberally with chocolate bits. Serve, and observe as members of your family begin to visibly vibrate.

How many songs total: 6,244 songs.
How many hours or days of music: 11 days, 3 hours, 3 minutes, 2 seconds.
Most recently played: Imbroglio (Yasunori Mitsuda, Shadow Hearts OST Disc 2) I've been on a final boss music kick lately. Mostly The Genesis from P4, though. :P
Most played: Memories of You (Shoji Meguro, Persona 3 OST Disc 2) at 105 plays.
Most recently added: Nothing for a while, apparently. I think the last thing I downloaded was the Mega Man 9 arranged OST, though.

Sort by song title:
First Song: Aroma of Despair (Jang Sun-Woon, Yogurting OST)
Last Song: Zui Town (Night) (Unknown, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Super Music Collection, Disc 2)

Please select which of the following is more disturbing:

1. John Diefenbaker, Canadian Prime Minister and Nixon impersonator, had a series of Vault-like nuclear fallout shelters built around Canada.

2. They are called Diefenbunkers.

3. The Wikipedia article actually refers to them as such.

Thank you, and good night.

In less than an hour, Barack Obama will be inaugurated as President of the United States. In that spirit, I can think of no better swan song for the former President than the following.
» It Also Works With Alton Brown
It has been noted that any written word can be made to seem more noble if you simply imagine it being read aloud by Morgan Freeman. Similarly, I've noticed that anything can be made to seem more intelligent, and indeed more interesting, if you imagine it being read aloud by Simon Schama.

I may have remarked on this to some of you before, but Mr. Schama is doing a series on American ideas, values, and direction on BBC America, so that brought it to the fore. And really, I'm having a hard time thinking of anything more amusing than a slightly sarcastic British historian discussing Sarah Palin.

Five Things Which Should Not Have Wikipedia Articles, but Do.
1. The Combover
2. TP'ing
3. Fla-Vor-Ice
4. Any of the hundreds of thousands of two and three-line entries for obscure towns in Eastern Europe and the Midwest with a population of roughly four people and a horse.
5. Your Mother

Incidentally, what tipped all this off was the vague rememberance of a Wikipedia article I saw a while back that was about toy horses made from pinecones. It wasn't part of the pinecone article, it didn't have anything to do with, well, anything. It was just sort of there. It's probably been deleted or merged or swirled or chocolate frosted or whatever it is those wild Wikipeople do.

» And I Apologize in Advance
So I turn on the History Channel expecting to see a thing about the Seven Deadly Sins (and I'd reeeeeally like to know who decided the History Channel needed to become the Jesus, Monster Quest and UFO Hunters Channel, by the by), and find that they're talking about, er. It, er. Look, there's no way to tiptoe around it.

They were discussing the transplanting of monkey testicles into men as a cure for the sin of sloth. No, I'm not shitting you. Apparently this was a thing that was done in the 1920s and 30s, and then quickly fell out of favor when it became apparent that it was total bullcrap. There was a famous tell-all book written, called The Monkey Gland Affair, which is a truly unfortunate title for a book.

But yeah, I don't know what to do with this information, so I'm sharing it.

Staying up late to finish Kirby's Dream Land may or may not be irony, but I find it amusing nonetheless. ^^
» It's Not Quite a Meme, buuuuut...
The Good
-Got to play a lot of great games, and a few lousy ones. But any year with two Persona games in it can't be all bad.
-This year's season of Doctor Who was absolutely great. I'm a bit disappointed that there won't be another full season until 2010, though.
-Obama got elected, still kinda jazzed about that. ^^

The Bad
-Still haven't found a paying job I feel I can live with. I just have a hard time balancing what I have to do with what I want to do, I guess.
-The economy's still in the crapper, which puts everyone on edge.
-I haven't made quite the progress with writing and art that I wanted to. I really need to find some way to consistantly motivate myself.

The Ugly
-Terry Pratchett got Alzhiemers.

The Weird
-Decided to use the extra Leap Second this year to paint eyebrows on a bird.
» Things Which Have Occurred
1. On an outing to retrieve food, Carolyn noticed that the avacados she had picked up were, in fact, Hass Avacados. A bit of quick work with a felt-tipped pen turned them into I Hass Avacados. The first instance of lol avacados? Lolvacados? Avacadlols? Perhaps.

2. Yesterday I learned a lesson, and the lesson was this - do not go shopping the day after Christmas. Attempting to track down a cheap copy of Pokemon Battle Revolution, I went to two different Gamestops, neither one of which I could actually enter. There were people literally standing shoulder to shoulder in the store. Movement was a long forgotten dream, conjured after an evening of licking exciting new mushrooms and lichen.

To wit, I like Pokemon, but I also like my feet, and I could never do anything to hurt them.

But I did find a copy of PBR today, and for super cheap, too. The cashier gave me a confused look when I asked for it and asked me why I wanted it. Which was actually a little annoying - when I'm buying something, I don't want to have to explain myself to the cashier. But in this case he was trying to warn me away from an unimpressive game, and didn't press the issue when I explained that I knew all about it.

3. It's 65 degrees outside. In December. Yesterday we had a thunderstorm that rattled the rafters and scared three kinds of crap out of the cats. Mother nature is trying to kill us with confusion.
