Actually, that doesn't really surprise me. He's been trying to take serious roles lately.

A few years ago, in one of my favorite TV series Judging Amy, he played a Spanish-American landscaping/gardening expert who was trying to woo a chain-smoking hardass tough-as-nails social worker (played by Tyne Daly, of Cagney & Lacey fame). Their romance was cute but odd.

In another and more recent dramatic role, he played Hugo "Hurley" Reyes's estranged father on Lost.

It's still weird to see him in serious roles. You'd think he'd just pull out a doobie and start saying to people, "Hey, man. Why all the drama? Loosen up!"

And where's Tommy Chong in all this? Oh yeah, he played a pothead on That 70's Show. I wonder why he can't get serious roles.

Don't forget, he was also busted by the feds! That could be a black mark on his record as one half of a comedic duo known for driving around in a van made of weed!
