It has been noted that any written word can be made to seem more noble if you simply imagine it being read aloud by Morgan Freeman. Similarly, I've noticed that anything can be made to seem more intelligent, and indeed more interesting, if you imagine it being read aloud by Simon Schama.
I may have remarked on this to some of you before, but Mr. Schama is doing a series on American ideas, values, and direction on BBC America, so that brought it to the fore. And really, I'm having a hard time thinking of anything more amusing than a slightly sarcastic British historian discussing Sarah Palin. |
